Ele was one of the great dogs to come to Regatta. She and Kalla were soulmates. They
bonded when Ele was just three weeks old and when she was four months old Kalla offered to
put some training on her for the breeder, assuming it would only be a temporary situation.
However, by the time Ele turned a year it was clear that she was staying and the breeder sent
Kalla Ele's papers, free of charge. Kalla and Ele were inseparable best friends and a
practically unbeatable junior showmanship duo. Kalla had trained her well in agiliy, obedience,
and herding and had planned on debuting in all venues at the 2003 ASCA Nationals. Kalla
also had plans to breed her that summer.
On June 10th, 2003, Ele began to get sick and on June 12th at 1:00am we rushed her to the
emergency vet after she stopped breathing. Ele went into cardiac arrest on the way there and
never regained consciousness. Kalla was heartbroken, and these many years later, still very
much is. We are all sad to have lost such a great dog and a beautiful friend.
There is an amazing memorial ad for Ele in the November/December 2003 Aussie Times,
done by Kathi Schwengel. Thank you so much all the people who donated for the ad and
sponsored a class at the 2003 ASCA Nationals in her honor. It is appreciated more than you
know.
